I. GENERAL
DEFINITION
The Gran Fondo Mont-Tremblant event is organized by Gran Tour Mont-Tremblant.
This cyclosportive ride,* sanctioned by the FQSC (Fédération Québécoise des Sports Cyclistes), is part of the Série des Défis Cyclosportifs du Québec.
In addition to the rules and regulations defined by the event organizer (described below), the rules for registering for the Gran Fondo Mont-Tremblant are defined in the FQSC’s Règlements de sécurité en cyclosportive (“cyclosportive safety regulations,” text in French).
This event features four courses of different lengths and with distinct characteristics.
*Cyclosportive: A mass-start cycling ride, open to all, which differs from a race in that the objective does not emphasize the competitive aspect. Riders follow a route on a road circuit (pre-established, secured and marked) and their times are recorded, for information purposes only.
REGISTRATION AND INSURANCE CONDITIONS
- To participate, cyclists must be at least 18 years of age as of December 31, 2019 and must show photo identification when registering the day of the event.
- Cyclists who will be aged 65 or older as of December 31, 2019, must show a medical certificate attesting to their fitness to ride, on the day they pick up their rider’s package.
- Entry fees are non-refundable but it is possible to transfer to another person until May 21st from your account.
- Entrants will not be refunded in case of disqualification.
- Each entrant is responsible for ensuring s/he is in sufficiently good physical condition to take part, and for verifying that s/he is covered by the required civil liability and accident insurance.
- Quebec entrants will be covered by the FQSC, either through their “Cyclisme pour tous” section licence, or by the event licence provided by the ride organizer.
- Entrants from outside Quebec must have insurance through their respective cycling federations, or personal insurance.
- Each rider taking part in the Gran Fondo Mont-Tremblant must be fully cognizant of the fact that such events involve a degree of risk. Gran Fondo Mont-Tremblant and its officials will assume no liability for any loss/damages, injury or accident experienced by an entrant.
II. SAFETY AND SECURITY
ON THE COURSE
- All riders are responsible for familiarizing themselves with the event rules and regulations.
- Along the majority of the route, riders must obey the centre line rule; i.e., stay in the right-hand lane.
- Riding two abreast whenever possible is strongly encouraged.
- Marshals on bicycles and motorcycles as well as police officers will be stationed at most intersections and turns along all courses. Individual riders, however, must take responsibility for themselves and remain alert at all times to what is happening on the course.
- No rider may make any abrupt motion that could endanger fellow riders.
- Any rider deemed to be endangering other entrants will be immediately disqualified and excluded from the event.
- An entrant who has registered for a specific course who decides to change courses before or during the event will not be included in the official results.
- Any entrant who violates the above rules will be disqualified and excluded from the event.
MEDICAL ASSISTANCE
- First-aid and ambulance teams will be part of the caravan on each course, ready to provide medical assistance.
- Any entrant who is seriously injured will be transported by ambulance to hospital or to a CLSC (local clinic) depending on the seriousness of the injury.
TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
- Technical assistance will be available near the start line.
- Mobile assistance teams will be present along each course.
Note that this service will be provided to correct minor problems (e.g., puncture, adjustment), not to effect major mechanical repairs.
FEED STATIONS
- Each course will include feed stations.
- Refreshments, water and food will be available at each station.
- All participants must stop at the feed zone with their respective peloton.
III. RULES FOR ENTRY
CHOICE OF COURSE; TIME LIMIT
- Each rider must choose the course s/he wishes to ride at the time of registration. Advice will be made available on the website www.crossroadstremblant.com/en/gran-fondo-mont-tremblant to allow riders to make a wise and informed choice based on individual level and ability as well as the time constraints for each course.
- The end-of-ride vehicle (“sweep car”) will trail the ride on each course at a minimum speed established by the organizer, to be communicated to riders at the time of registration. Any entrant or group of entrants passed by this vehicle will be declared as having missed the time limit. From that point on, stragglers will be permitted to ride to the finish line on their own, in unprotected conditions and under their sole responsibility; they must obey the Highway Safety Code and will not be credited with an official time.
MAIN RULES
- Only standard road, hybrid bikes (without barends) are accepted, provided that they comply with the rules and regulations in effect. Mountain bikes are not accepted.
- Each rider must wear a helmet in compliance with the standards in effect.
- Disc wheels, triathlon handlebars and spinaci-type handlebars are not permitted.
- Radios, portable sound systems, music players or cellphones equipped with headphones (mp3 players, iPods, iPhones, miniature speakers, etc.) are not permitted.
- No private support is permitted; only duly identified support vehicles will be allowed access to the courses.
- Always be alert to what is going on around you on the road. Even though the cycling lanes will have been secured by our staff, the courses will not be 100% closed off. The best way to keep everything safe is for everyone to be alert and ride safely, obeying all elementary traffic rules.
- Always pass other riders on the left, communicating your intentions in advance by politely saying “attention à gauche” / “on your left”, “dépassement à gauche” / “passing on your left”, “gauche” / “left”, etc.
- It’s important to warn other riders about any obstacle or problem on the course, no matter how slight (e.g., pothole, crack, motor vehicle, bike, animal, intent to pass).
- Sufficient numbers of toilets and garbage cans will be provided along the course, and their locations will be identified in your route handbook.
- You must bring along sufficient clothing and food to ensure your ride goes smoothly.
- Since the ride will be timed, you must complete it within the permitted time, if you want to be credited with an official time.
- Any behaviour deemed to be inappropriate (unsporting or uncivil) may be penalized, and the offending rider may be excluded from the event.
